Equity is Colorblind, 2018
Charlotte, North Carolina

The background of this mural resembles a vision test in which a viewer with colorblindness would not be able to see the word “equity” embedded within the dots. As an artist in the foreground walks away from her work, another smaller figure begins to paint over her mural with gray paint. Notably, the city of Charlotte uses the same shade of gray to cover up unsanctioned graffiti throughout its neighborhoods.
“This piece illustrates the inequities faced by different demographics within the city and serves as a microcosm of what is playing out on both national and international stages.”
